Building links is extremely important to a website’s success.  This is because search engines use links to determine how popular a particular website is, and will have an effect on search engine placement.  When people are looking for a website, they often use search engines such as Google or Yahoo, so it’s very important for your site to rank well.  In my opinion, submitting to directories is the number one way to build quality links quickly and at a low cost.

If you didn’t know, directories are websites that allow you to list your site either for free or for a fee.  Free and reciprocal directories are nice, but they may not offer as great of a benefit as paid directories.  Yes, you get a link, but is anyone going to see it buried under all the others?  With paid directories, your link is probably going to have a greater benefit, but the cost can really add up.  The best solution is to use a combination of free directories AND bidding directories, like Your Bid Directory, in which webmasters place a “bid” and the bid amount determines the position on the directory.  The best thing is, bids start at only $1 and are permanent!
